Questions

Frequently asked

Most questions hospital pharmacy and procurement teams ask before they sign up. If something isn't here, email contact@vialwatch.com.

The product

How is this different from the FDA Drug Shortages list?

The FDA list is canonical and free, but it has three structural limits for procurement teams: it lags (reports onset after allocation has already shifted), it doesn't cross-reference recalls or new ANDA approvals (so you can't see relief signals coming), and it doesn't vet alternative suppliers. VialWatch combines the FDA shortage feed with FDA Enforcement (recalls), Drugs@FDA (new approvals), and curated supplier-quality data into one personalized brief — so you stop opening four browser tabs to make one decision.

How is this different from Vizient or Premier?

Vizient and Premier bundle shortage intelligence with their GPO membership. Three issues: they're allocation-aligned (they have commercial relationships with manufacturers), not available to non-members, and their pricing is bundled into total GPO contracts rather than transparent. VialWatch is GPO-independent, available to any hospital, and priced explicitly ($149/mo Pro, $999/mo Enterprise). Many of our customers are also Vizient or Premier members who want a second, independent view.

What does "vetted alternative-supplier brief" actually contain?

For Pro subscribers, every drug in shortage gets a supplier panel that surfaces: FDA-active warning letters, import alerts, last inspection classification (NAI/VAI/OAI), country of manufacture, and a curated procurement contact (website + phone where available). For Enterprise customers, we deliver custom on-demand sourcing reports with our team's manual review of supplier capability, written brief format suitable for forwarding to a formulary committee.

How often is data refreshed?

FDA Drug Shortages, FDA Enforcement (recalls), and Drugs@FDA (approvals) are pulled daily at 06:00 UTC via authenticated API calls. Pro subscribers get a personalized digest every morning at 06:30 UTC summarizing overnight changes to their watchlist. Free subscribers get a Sunday-evening weekly brief covering the week's activity.

Are the therapeutic alternatives clinically reviewed?

Yes. Every alternative on a drug's intel page is composite-sourced from ASHP shortage management guidance, Sanford Guide, IDSA recommendations, and AHFS Drug Information, with dose-conversion notes and clinical caveats (renal/hepatic adjustments, anaphylaxis substitutions, etc.). The notes are intended for a working pharmacist or pharmacy director — not a patient. Final clinical decisions remain with the prescriber, always.

Pricing & billing

Is there a free tier?

Yes, genuinely free. The Free tier includes: weekly Sunday brief, watchlist for up to 5 drugs, unified shortage feed, drug intelligence pages with shortage history. No credit card required to sign up.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Pro and Enterprise customers can cancel from the dashboard's "Manage billing" link (powered by Stripe Customer Portal). Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — no retention calls, no penalties, no questions.

Do you offer free trials?

For organizations evaluating Pro or Enterprise, we typically offer a 14- or 30-day trial without requiring a credit card upfront. Email contact@vialwatch.com with your organization name and a few sentences about your shortage workflow.

Do you accept POs / invoicing for Enterprise?

Yes. Enterprise customers can pay via PO or net-30 invoicing in addition to Stripe. Email contact@vialwatch.com to set up.

Data & security

Do you handle PHI or patient data?

No. VialWatch does not collect, store, transmit, or process Protected Health Information (PHI). The platform handles drug-level data (shortages, recalls, approvals, manufacturers) and account-level data (subscriber email, organization name, watchlist drugs). It is not a clinical or patient-care system. See our Security & Data Handling page for the full data inventory.

Where is data stored?

VialWatch runs on US-based infrastructure (Hostinger Premium Cloud). Payment data is handled exclusively by Stripe (PCI DSS Level 1 certified) — VialWatch never sees full card numbers. Email is delivered via authenticated SMTP with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC published. Full details on the Security page.

Are you SOC 2 / HITRUST certified?

Not yet. VialWatch is in private beta and we are evaluating both SOC 2 Type II and HITRUST CSF for late 2026 / early 2027. Because the platform handles no PHI, neither certification is strictly required for hospital use, but we know IT teams ask. We're happy to walk through specific security questionnaires (HECVAT, SIG Lite) for Enterprise customers on request.

How do I request data deletion?

From your dashboard's Settings page, click "Sign out" then email contact@vialwatch.com with the subject "Data deletion request." We delete subscriber records, watchlist data, and any sourcing brief history within 14 days. Active subscriptions must be cancelled separately via Stripe.

The company

Who's behind VialWatch?

VialWatch is built by the team at AzeoRx Pharmaceuticals LLC, a Colorado-registered company with an active drug-discovery research program. Our background is medicinal chemistry, structure-based drug design, and pharmaceutical R&D. We built VialWatch because we kept hearing the same complaint from clinical and procurement partners: that finding a credible alternative manufacturer during a shortage took hours of phone calls and chasing dead ends. More about us →

Are you a wholesale distributor or pharmacy?

No. VialWatch is an information and research service. We do not buy, sell, ship, store, dispense, or take title to any drug product. Our supplier briefs are informational — you remain responsible for procurement decisions and supplier credentialing per your normal process.

Do you accept money from drug manufacturers or brokers?

No. VialWatch does not accept payment, sponsorship, advertising, or any other commercial relationship from drug manufacturers, brokers, or distributors in exchange for placement, ranking, or favorable mention in our briefs. Our supplier shortlists reflect what the underlying FDA and regulatory data say — never who's paying. This independence is part of why we exist.

How do I get started?

Three options: (1) Subscribe to the free Sunday weekly brief at vialwatch.com — no credit card. (2) Start a Pro subscription at $149/mo — instant access. (3) For Enterprise (multi-hospital systems, GPOs, distributors), email contact@vialwatch.com for a quote and trial.
